One one of my systems the motherboard beeper didn't get used for beeping
once the system booted past a certain stage. The traditional CTRL+G
"bell" noise was a sound sample played through the sound card, rather
than beeping the beeper.
I've another that does both. Getting the motherboard to beep makes both
the beeper beep, and a tone to go through the sound card.
