evince shows only first page

Today the evince that came with fc8 began showing only the first page of
multiple page pdf files.
There is no count of pages box in the tool bar, and no indication that
there is more than one page.
There has been no change in my system since evince last functioned
properly, several days ago.
I cant find an updated rpm for fc8, and yum says nothing to do
Any ideas?
