Strange behavior - cannot burn cd's and no sound

If is just started happening after recent updates then I have seen a
similar problem (failure to burn cds) because of the pilot-link update
to version 0.12.2-17. I am currently staying at pilot-link 0.12.2-7
until I have time to file a proper bug report (possibly related to this?
