pulseaudio again

Greetings;

since removing pulseaudio, I've rebooted, and the x launch generates an audio 
server failure message.  The only thing I have left is the system beep kmail 
makes when a message is received, everything else is silent.  There was a 
small thump in the speakers when udev started.

Anybody got a fresh magic twanger to make this work again?
