The newer nano videos will work properly. I just resolved this issue
myself not long ago for an 8GB nano video(green). Make sure this comman
has been run :

If you look in the IPOD you should see
/media/IPOD/iPod_Control/Device/SysInfo-Extended. The key here is the
SysInfo-Extended, if this file is not present then

ipod-read-sysinfo-extended has not been run correctly. Please note that SysInfo is not the same as SysInfo-Extended.

This was the key for me but the first couple of times i screwed up the
syntax. This is supposed to happen automatically but it didn't for me ,
once run though it has been working well.
Make sure you have libgpod-0.60 and gtkpod 0.99.12. Amarok should be
1.48, i think, for it to work. These newer versions of the file just
became available not too long ago.
Post the output of mount(with the IPOD plugged in of course) if you
cannot get it working. Once you know the syntax it is very simple. On
occasion i have noticed that the IPOD does not correctly report the
number of songs in the database. Everything is there though and plays.
This error is only in the root directory of the IPOD, all other
sub-menus report song count accurately.
