Anyone know of good Linux GPS driving map software?

Did you look into using gpsd?  it is usually smart enough to figure 
out how to talk to your GPS, and it presents a standard interface to 
programs like Roadnav. For serial devices, you do have to tell it 
about the interface you are using, but with USB GPS devices, it 
adds/removes them on the fly. It also has the advantage of letting 
use more then one GPS or share one GPS between programs. You may 
have to get the latest version for it to work seamlessly with udev.
