Kernel 2.6.23 hangs at "starting udev ..."

this is what i first had, but it hung until i changed to (sdx,n).
with 'x' and 'n' both as numbers.

try 'sd', it may correct it for you as it did for me. will not take that long.
and certainly worth time if it does work.
