need help with installing .tar.gz packages that i've downloaded

tar -xzf somefile.tar.gz
You will then probably have to change int the directory that is created,
and ./configure, make, and (as root) make install.
There should be an INSTALL file in the directory you can read.
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
