Remember the old David Ahl "Basic Computer Games" books?  (If you don't, you
can find them online at http://www.atariarchives.org )

I learned C by rewriting some of those games into C and had a lot of fun doing
it.  They're short, so it doesn't take forever to do one, and it's cool when
they work.
