What comes up in response to the grub-install? It's exactly what I
posted a couple messages back:

sh-4.0# chroot /mnt/sysimage
sh-4.0# grub-install /dev/sda2
Unknown partition table signature
Unknown partition table signature
Unknown partition table signature
Unknown partition table signature
Unknown partition table signature
The file /boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly.
