How to suppress database users in GDM?

Assuming GDM inherits this particular property from the base OS, 
changing UID_MIN & GID_MIN in /etc/login.defs to an appropriate higher 
value should work. But this will also hide previously created "valid" 
IDs from the GDM login user list.
