Fedora 12 upgrade sucks

When I try to enabled desktop effects on F12 it fails saying I need 3D
support.  Obviously the default nouveau driver doesn't support 3D.  Running
compiz --replace results in no window manager at all.  I have to run
metacity --replace to get a work window manager.
