f12 updates kernel nomodeset option breaks radeon

Still getting occasional crashes. Several hours of use this time rather 
than several minutes in the box stock f12.

This crash took out the whole box...first FF stopped responding, then 
t-bird, then gnome.

ssh in from another machine and can run a few commands then :

...on the console. Shortly after this "Input/Output Error" for every 
command and a hard reset was needed to recover.

Not sure how common this is, but I think I am seeing a new line in dmesg :
