I think if you use Gmail or other webmail services it probably happens
as well, so it's not specifically a Windows issue.

That's a different issue. I have a Facebook account but use it only for
keeping in touch with family. I also have a LinkedIn account, which can
be useful for professional contacts. All of these things have pros
(convenience) and cons (security and privacy). The thing is to be aware
of them.
