NetworkManager, is it important?

You can make a network interface available on boot by marking it as
available to all users.  I do this with my laptop for the open
wireless in my home, so I can make sure that even if I'm not logged
in, as long as it's on I'm able to SSH it to it from elsewhere in the
house.
