That would depend on the tools that you use.  

Various tools can show hidden partitions.  They're not hidden from drive
prepping tools, they're just marked as not to be shown to the desktop
interface (to desktop interfaces that look at partition types, and
perhaps to prepping tools designed to hide things from the clueless).

Another option is to use something like zapdisk, which zeros out the
beginning sectors of a drive, so all drive tools think it's a blank
disc.
