You did not state this.  What is your default language?  It appears that 
it is other than English by this statement.

Let me understand this better.  You state that Wine 1.2 does not work 
either after you use yum to remove and purge the Wine 1.3.1 package?

Also, which package did you install?  Wine 64 bit has problems that Wine 
32 bit does not.

You might get a better response by posting to the Wine-User list as well. 

And pointing you to the FAQ was because you had not stated all of the 
facts.  I did not know you are using KDE, this may make a difference.
