Problems after upgrading a F11 to F12

I upgraded a F11 to F12 using the DVD.
Afterwards, I upgraded all packages (with the exception of the kernel,
that is a separate issue!!).
When I reboot and I log as a standard user, I don't have the icons for
computer, trah, and home on my desktop.Furthermore any item in
Resource menu seems not to operate!!!
Where is the starting point for my investigation???
