Firefox crashing when accessing an SSL-secured web site

Two things occur to me:

1) Looks like you're invoking Firefox in a German locale. Try starting 
firefox in en_US:

LC_ALL=en_US.utf-8 firefox

This would eliminate a locale-dependent issue.

2) Run memtest86 to check for bad RAM.
