How Can I reset xserver xorg to default settings to try and avoid crash and log out after log in?[DISCARD]

log in as root via console terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F2)
and look in /var/log/Xorg.?.log
where '?' is a number (0 1 2 3....etc)
Xorg.0.log is the most current one.
What are the error messages there?
