I still run a RH8 VM, and an internal server built on FC3, which uses some 
things changed in recent versions of gcc. Cheap memory, disk, and VMs have 
changed the relationship between cost of porting to something newer and cost of 
keeping an old machine for development.

I'm not saying this is good or bad, just that the old development is stable and 
virtually without cost.
