your welcome for you like the link.  as you say if i appended those lines at
the end of the file /boot/grub/menu.lst, it would have any other impact
except that what is given though the contents are not those which were are
written in that link, still it is safe to append that at the end of the
file. editing for that particular file (menu.lst) from my side is only to
add those lines which are written to add in that file after searching for a
particular string of characters, which is as follows:

## password ['--md5'] passwd
  # If used in the first section of a menu file, disable all
  interactive editing # control (menu entry editor and command-line)
  and entries protected by the # command 'lock'

which was not there in the case of my menu.lst file, even though should i
go? people say abt its EOL, but solving the problem is good even though it
has not reached EOL.
