Maybe the GRUB from F11 has problems when accessing sda8 if it is
an ext4 filesystem.

GRUB has a console mode, try the commands manually to see what happens.

(for example, "root (hd0,7)" will print the filesystem type, then
"kernel /" followed by a tab will show the files which are present....)
