Is KDE dead ? Was Re: Stable Release Updates

I gather that Gnome is about to embark on a major upgrade/overhaul like
KDE some year and a half ago.

Obviously there are a number of KDE users but I suspect that most of
them are people who have used a Linux desktop for some time.
