Uodate confusion.

Today I saw the standard octagon symbol on my top panel indicating
updates being available. I clicked on the icon and saw a display saying
no updates were available. But the octagon symbol did not disappear. Out
of curiosity I ran yum upgrade and was informed there were 7 rpm to
install and 114 upgrades to be done. So I told yum to do them.

The upgrade process is still proceeding as I write this e-mail. But what
has gone wrong? both yum and packagekitd are running as I type.
