iMON VFD in Fedora 14 - can't get display to work

Hi All,

I've been trying to set up an iMON VFD on a fresh Fedora 14 system.

# lsusb
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 15c2:0038 SoundGraph Inc. GD01 MX VFD Display/IR Receiver
# uname -a
Linux fedora.host 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686 #1 SMP Mon Oct 18 23:56:17 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

I installed lcdproc and lirc from rpmfusion. After configuring
LCDd.conf and starting LCDd, I get a lot of errors in dmesg:

imon: lcd_write: invalid payload size: 32 (expecting 8)

Searching through the Net, I found it's probably related to
lirc_imon module that does not detect VFD panel properly (thinking
it's a newer LCD one). All the places I found suggested to add
'display_type=1' option to lirc_imon kernel module to work around this
issue. Somehow this didn't work for me - the module didn't load at all
giving an error:

[10838.855685] lirc_imon: module is from the staging directory, the quality is unknown, you have been warned.
[10838.858179] lirc_imon: Unknown parameter `display_type'

I also tried it with 'islcd=0' and got the same result... :-(

Am I doing something wrong? Were there any recent changes that were
not widely discussed online yet?
What else I shall try in order to make the iMON and its VFD working?
