On my updated F13 x86_64 box with standard OpenJDK stuff box that applet 
did not even start. I get a grey square and the message in Firefox' 
status bar "applet not initialized". The same was the case on my laptop 
which runs updated F14 x86_64.

It helps to file a bug and refer to that site. I have seen similar 
reports in the past posted as bugs and they got fixed.
