Hi, I think this is what he has already tried, I hope he wont mind me
reposting the Xorg.0.log he sent me here. Wondering if it's an nvidia
driver 290 problem, don't know if Lawrence managed to try downgrading
to the 285 driver.

Anyway, to boot into runlevel 3 just add 3 to the end of the kernel
argument during boot. Will not have a permanent effect.
