How to get scancodes from mouse buttons?

Here is a picture of the rodent, the buttons in question are the two
Zoom buttons on the upper left:

The two multimedia buttons on the left side of the mouse (below the
Zoom buttons in the picture) work as expected, as does the four-way
scroll.
