Why is clamd so hard?

Yes - thanks for that. I should have mentioned that I had tried that. It
worked for me too, but unfortunately I use other programs that call
clamdscan and I cannot alter the way that they call clamdscan.

The solution of symlinking /etc/clamd.d/clamd.conf to /etc/clamd.conf
solved that problem.
