xdg-open always says that "which: no gnome-default-applications-properties in /usr/bin:/bin:....."

The presence of gnome-default-applications-properties helps xdg-utils know 
whether your session is gnome2 (if not present, gnome3).  the output you see 
is (mostly) harmless.

(It'll be fixed in the next xdg-utils update, when it comes, hopefully 
sooner rather than later).
