  Try changing the session (temporarily) to KDE and see if the problem
persists - this may help distinguish a gnome 3 issue from a broader
issue ... (driver etc).

  Is your machine one of the newer sandy bridge ones ? If so there may a
new kernel coming soon (2.6.38.8-34) which may help ...
