  Actually, mutt, being a text based mail client, does have a text based
mail notification scheme in the header bar (you just use
mailboxes=blabla to monitor those for notification) ...

  seems appropriate to have text notification in a text based mail
client (tho I do understand the desire for GUI features .. )
