F15 to F16 upgrade via DVD does not recognize previous installation

In addition, the gnome-shell-extension-alternative-status-menu no longer
works; I can no longer shut down or hibernate (incredible that this is
the default). I even tried removing and reinstalling the package. So I
have to use the workaround of "pm-hibernate" or "shutdown -h now" at the
command line.
