Nothing should be displayed on the terminal, but the resolution on the
monitor connected to tao should switch to 1920x1080.

It is very unusual that xrandr reports a 1920x1080 resolution, if
something else is being used. How do you know that the actual resolution
is 1280x1024?

Also, post the output of "lspci | grep VGA", to find out which graphics
hardware you are using.
