Practical problem with NFS

I have a server running CentOS-6,
and a laptop running Fedora-16.
I'd like to say, on my laptop,
mount server:/common /common
and then keep some personal data on the server.
The problem is that my UID on the server is 500,
while it is 1000 on the laptop.
This means that my files on the server
are seen on the laptop as owned by nobody.nobody,
and are signalled as read-only.
Is there some simple way of overcoming this?
