what on earth is firefox up to?

Basically the same thing here -- FF 13.0.1 on fedora core 17 x86_64 -- 
except that CPU usage isn't maxxing at 50%; it sometimes climbs a bit 
above that.

Haven't started my i686 machine to see whether the same behavior 
occurs thereupon.
