IMHO the proper way to reply to a message within a digest is to use the
facility provided by most modern email clients to do just that (e.g.
both Evolution and Thunderbird can do this). This quotes only the
specific message and preserves threading, whereas editing the Subject
line does not.

Of course the real question is why do people still receive list traffic
via digests, but perhaps the answer must remain a mystery.
