I don't like to use add-ons, unless they come directly from Mozilla.

clive seems to meet my needs best.

I don't bother with conversion, since most applications (vlc, smplayer, etc) play flv 
files. The few times I did try to convert (with kdenlive, avidemux), I noticed a 
significant and unacceptable loss in video quality and the files were often larger, 
despite the inferior quality.
