A wallet mystery

First of all, KWalletManager does not seem to do anything
on my Fedora-17/KDE laptop;
I mean nothing seems to appear, or is listed in "top".
So I don't know how to add an item to my wallet.

I should say that I have never understood how the wallet scheme works.
I understand its general purpose, but not how it is implemented.

I seem to have two wallets, kdewallet and wallet,
with the latter said (in KDE Wallet Configuration) to be the default.

My problem - not very important from a practical point of view -
is that when I open KNode, highlight the Eternal September account,
and press B to Get New Articles in All Groups,
I am usually (nearly always) asked to enter a password for "wallet".
The message I get is from KDE Wallet Service, and it says that
"The application 'KNode' has requested to open the wallet 'wallet'.
Please enter the password for this wallet below."
When I do this, I can access the newsgroups in this account.

I see (in KDE Wallet Configuration=>Access Control)
that several applications are listed under both wallet and kdewallet,
but KNode is only listed under the former.

It seems I need to add KNode to kdewallet - I don't know why -
but I have not idea how to do this.
(The "Help" button in this window is of little assistance.)

As I said, I am generally mystified by the wallet system,
and in particular by how my two wallets interact,
and would welcome enlightenment on this area.
