I rooted my wife's phone but it seemed to require a udev rule in order to
have the right device permissions. Assuming it identifies as the same
vendor (verify with dmesg?):

--- /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules ---
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="04e8″, MODE="0666"
--- end ---
