Brother HL5250 vs. Cups

Frequently when I try to print double sided to this printer I get a
single page reading:

        ERROR NAME;
            stackunderflow
        COMMAND;
            pop
        OPERAND STACK;

Has anyone else seen this?  What's the problem?  How can I fix it?

System is Fedora-17 fully up to date, running on x86_64 hardware.  The
ppd file appears to come from:

        foomatic-db-ppds-4.0-31.20120103.fc17.noarch
