How can I prevent udevd from renaming eth0 to em1

It is not unreasonable just because it's not useful to you. I think unreasonable 
is not providing a MAC-to-name option as part of the distro, and not making ethN 
the default on any system with only a single NIC, but the default names 
generated do mean something, just something not needed or understood by most users.
