Encrypting the hard drive is the same as encrypting data in email /
websites; used to protect your data from those who break into your machine
and steal your data. It is also used if you are prone to leaving your
computer places where people may lift it while you are away; if encrypted,
the computer is us less to them unless they have your password, even if
said thief were to try to install another OS as it asks you for that
password. If you are letting others use your box it is a pointless exercise
if you give them your password.
