When I upgraded one of my MythTV systemd to F18, I seem to remember that the 
name of my card changed and I needed to "rescan" the audio devices to find the 
proper, new card name.  I have no idea why, but now the card in my case looks 
like (output from aplay -L):

hdmi:CARD=MID,DEV=0
    HDA Intel MID, ALC887 Digital
    HDMI Audio Output

What is the output of aplay -L
