SiS chipset problems

I got a hold of an old Sony All-in-one I'm trying to refurbish for someone
who could still put an old P4 to use. I've upgraded the memory to 1GB and
the HD from 120GB to 250GB so I think I've got enough horsepower and
storage but the one problem I haven't been able to fix is it seems X REALLY
doesn't like the SiS video chipset, which being an all-in-one, is not
upgradable.

I tried Fedora 19, 20, Ubuntu 13.10, Mint 16 and all had too many problems
with X to even install. The only thing I have had success with is CentOS
6.5 but even though it installed and seems to run fine, I still get
corrupted video when the screen saver starts. It clears up when you shake
the mouse, etc, but I still don't trust it enough to give to someone. I
don't want to be Tech support frequently after it finds a new home.

Any ideas? Or should I just scrap it?

Thanks,
Richard
