yumex won't skip checking for updates

OK, now we are getting somewhere. my ./config/yumex/yumex.conf has
autorefresh=1 even though the GUI preferences has "Autocheck for
updates" unchecked. Curious and curiouser. WHat else do you have
checked? I have "Load packages on launch" and "show newest only is
active by defaut'.
