gstreamer / rhythmbox

When I walk away from my computer in the evening, I pause playback in
Rhythmbox.  Without fail, I cannot resume playing the following morning.
Clicking  the pause/pay button, Rhythmbox pops up this error:

Failed to link new stream into GStreamer pipeline

Closing the application and starting it again resolves the problem.
What's happening overnight?

It seems to be an upstream bug noted in Ubuntu
