So I changed mine to:
if [ -x /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc ]; then
# exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
exec /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc
fi
if [ -f /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc ]; then
# exec sh /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
exec sh /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc
fi
restarted the vncserver and connected. Now I get a blank black screeen
rather than a blank blue screen...
Do I need xfce installed on my notebook? I only have gnome on it.
