Sorry Bill but I don't use duplicity myself. I just checked the man page
and found what appeared to be an error.

What I would do is simply test it on a small tree and a local backup
file to see what happens. Apparently the backup file is in tar format so
you should be able to see its contents with 'tar tvf ...' or similar.

No idea. Since duplicity works with various plugins that might be where
the problem is, but I couldn't be more specific.
